Welcome to my website. I hope that it will provide you with the information you need to decide whether I am the right therapist for you. I do psychotherapy with individual adults and with couples. I do not work with children.
I have been doing this work for a long time—more than 40 years. I consider it my calling. I am still committed to it and devoted to it. I am still trying as hard as I can. I am still trying to learn to do it better.
There is a great deal of information on this website. I hope you will go through it carefully. You can find out about my background, training, publications, work experience—how I do what I do and why. You can dip into two of the books on this page by clicking on them. You can read Couple Therapy Technique in its entirety. I have striven to be transparent. You may be surprised at how self-critical I am at points in my case studies. At this point in my life I have nothing to hide.
The case studies are certainly the best way to gain a vivid picture of how I work. (The cases are real, the characters are ficionalized to preserve client confidentiality.) Couple Therapy Technique consists largely of detailed reports on three cases. The chapters preceding the case reports discuss the theoretical basis of my approach, the therapeutic relationship in couple therapy, assessment, and treatment planning. If you click on “Links” on this page and then on “Hypnosis Case Study” you will be taken to a 2006 paper reporting on my use of hypnosis in two anxiety cases, one of them post-traumatic anxiety. Also from the links page you can go to a 2017 article, “Metaphoric Tasks in Psychotherapy,” which also reports on two cases. The first is a general psychotherapy case. It is distinguished by what may be the longest follow-up history in the psychotherapy literature—22 years. The second case concerns hypnosis for chronic pain. It is one of those once-in-a-career success stories. This article also includes an account, requested by the journal’s editor, of the development of my approach to psychotherapy (pp. 321-328)—my credo, more or less. (And if you visit the mountains at the top of this page you can get a quick but panoramic view of my ideas on love, compatibility, and marriage.)
If you have any questions or if there is further information I could provide, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to speak with you.
